People everywhere say certain things in different ways based on where they're from, and their backgrounds. In an English class this can cause a problem when it comes to writing essays and even engaging in conversation. I think that although everyone has the right to talk in different ways everyone should at least know how to use "proper" English and put it to use when it is required. When you're talking to your friends or just having a casual conversation it is okay to use slang, but when you are on the job, trying to get a job, or doing anything related to school you should not talk the same way. I think that everyone made valid points but regardless you need to know how to talk properly when put in certain situations or it will cause issues.
More obnoxious questions! Can you think of any scenarios within an academic context when this would be acceptable? Maybe even desirable? Or is it just bad across the board a=in certain contexts? If that's the case, can you say more about why?
